WS Opening Ceremonies
World Series Opening Ceremonies/ Skills Competition
Wednesday July 10th, 2024.
Welcome to the 2024 USSSA World Series! We are excited to have all of you participate in this event. There will be three skills competition opportunities for your players to participate in at the Opening Ceremonies: Round the Horn, Team Relay, and Exit Velo/ Pull Down Velo. We will also have a Home Run Derby available for $20 a player. Prizes will be given out for each event to the winners in each age group.
In order to participate in the Home Run Derby, players must be signed up prior to the start of the event. Each coach will receive a sign-up sheet to select players for each skills competition. That sheet needs to be filled out and returned by 7/8/24.
Time – Home Run Derby will start at 5:30pm
Skills Competitions will Start at 6pm
Parade of teams will follow the conclusion of the skills competition at 8pm.
Location – Capitol Federal Sports Complex, Liberty, MO
‘Round The Horn’ Skilz Competition – 5 Players
Five players from each team will be allowed to participate.
The participants will take the positions of (1B, 2B, 3B, SS, C)
The goal is to complete a sequence of throws in the infield as fast as possible.
The catcher will start the time by throwing it to 3B, 3B will then throw to 2B, 2B to SS, SS to 1B, and 1B back to the catcher to stop time.
Time will not stop for any reason, and the throws must be completed in this order.
Each team will be allotted one trial run before having their official time recorded.
Team Relay – 4 Players
Each team will be allowed to have 4 players participate.
The positions in this event will consist of the (CF, SS, 2B, C)
The baseball will be placed 20 yards behind the CF.
On the whistle the CF will sprint to the ball and throw it to the first cut-off man, the SS. The SS then has the option to throw it to 2B for a double cut home, or take a long shot to the Catcher in hopes to reduce time.
Time will stop when the catcher has possession of the ball.
The Exit/Pull Down Velo Competition – 5 players
Each player participating in this event will take 3 swings, and throw 3 pull downs. Each swing/throw will be recorded. Each player will be allowed one warm up swing/throw. (There will be space on the field to play catch to warm up to throw, as well as stretch)
The winner will be determined by which player’s pull down velo average, and exit velo average equals to be the highest sum.
Example: Exit Velo Scores- 73, 75, 71 = 73 Pull Down Velo Scores- 63, 65, 66 = 64.7
The players score would then be 137.7.
This event will take place on Memorial Field, located on the 4-Plex at Capitol Federal Sports Complex.
Home Run Derby – (Limited to 2 Players per team)
Players must sign up in advance to participate!
Coaches will be sent a Sign up form for each skills competition.
There will be a $20 admission fee to participate in the Home Run Derby
A pitching machine will be used
Fences will be brought in close
Each participant will be given 45 seconds to him as many homeruns as possible
Tie Breaker
After the first round has concluded and a winner is undetermined because of a tie, there will be a playoff round of tied participants.
If no homeruns are hit during the tiebreaker, the furthest ball will determine the winner.
In order to participate in the Home Run Derby, players must be signed up prior to the start of the event. Each coach will receive a sign-up sheet to select players for each skills competition. That sheet needs to be filled out and returned by 7/8/24.
